Dendrobium linguiforme

Thumbnail orchid, tick orchid, tongue orchid

This distinctive epiphyte or lithophyte grows in open forests and rainforest verges around Brisbane. In suitable conditions, it will cover large areas making a very spectacular display when in flower.

The creeping habit and the dull green succulent grooved leaves to 40 mm by 15 mm give this orchid a distinctive appearance. The flower stems grow to 15 cm with up to 20 flowers per stem. Flowers are white to cream and about 10 mm across but do not open widely.

This distinctive orchid cannot be confused with any other orchid even when not in flower.
