Tiger orchid, hornet orchid

This common deciduous terrestrial orchid grows in open forests around Brisbane. Its yellow flowers are easily seen above the grass when in flower.

Its grass like leaves grow to 50 cm by 4 mm. The flower stem grows to 60 mm tall with up to 7 30 mm yellow flowers.

This distinctive orchid is easily identified by the single ridge on the labellum and the two brown blotches on the dorsal sepal. It can not be confused with any other orchid.
